Seriously, that doesn't matter either way. I don't think anyone in Detroit was ever worrid about losing the division. The biggest thing for us was regaining the confidence and the mental edge against the Chisox. After getting sweot by them then coming into this series winning the first two, the last thing we wanted to do was give them the last two (the 4th ame 10-0 especially). No one cares how many starters they lose or gain, thy're not taking the divison with the lead we have. Our starting pitching and 1-6 hitters just won't let it happen. What does worry me is if the Chisox are in our heads. We want to go into a playoff series with them feeling like we should win if we play our game. I'm not sure if we feel like that. Then again, this Tigs team seems really headstrong, confident, and not buying into the garbage so who knows.
I was at the CoPa 3 series ago against the White Sox. There was an old dude sitting next to me who was an out of town Chisox fan. Joe Tiger Killer Crede hit a homer afterwhich the old man said to me "The Tigers can beat anyone except the Sox". I laughed at him which was justified by Craig Monroe's following grand slam, but today I can't help but wonder if he's right. Speaking of Monroe, why isn't this guy batting 3 yet? He's been probably our most -valuable- hitter this season, and by far a top 5 guy in the league int he 8th and 9th inning. Give Clutch Monroe a bigger role!

I don't think the Sox will make the playoffs. They need their pitching to return to the 2005 form. And if they get in, I think they are going to go out in the 1st round, as they will likely face the Yankees, w/ a Murderer's Row lineup. And w/ all the time Sheff and Godzilla have missed due to injury, they will be fresh. The Yankees bats will wear down the Sox's arms. I really think now the starters are running out of gas. Ozzie continues to pitch them into the 7th and 8th innings. And the Sox also refuse to put Brandon McCarthy in the rotation.
Their words do not match their actions. They said they were going for the jugular this year, to win again. They could've gotten Soriano at the deadline for McCarthy. No, they hold onto the kid. I have to ask: If they value this kid so much, why isn't he in the rotation?? Makes you kind of wonder |
