Default #3 Minor League Player In The Nation

ABA MVP

ALL-STAR GAME (MVP)

YouTube - Anthony Anderson 2008 ASG Highlights

Anthony Anderson, the 2008 ABA League MVP from the Manchester Millrats, signed a lucrative overseas contract with AEK-Larnacas of the top division in Cyprus.

The 5'11 guard put up impressive numbers in the ABA last season for the 28-win Manchester club, scoring 23.1 points per game on 67% shooting from the floor. By doing so, Anderson was named the 3rd Best Minor Leaguer in the country in February by ProBasketballNews.com.

Now considered an NBA-level prospect by many, Anderson was a four-year starter for the UMass Minutemen between 2001 and 2005, before family issues prevented him from starting a professional basketball career immediately after graduation.

It was the summer of 2006 when current Manchester Millrats GM Ian McCarthy first crossed paths with Anthony while scouting local Boston area talent:

"I saw Anthony play in an outdoor tournament in New Bedford in 2006, and then the following summer in Lynn, Massachusetts...I was absolutely convinced that he was an amazing talent," states McCarthy. "It took awhile for him to trust what I was telling him, but once he made up his mind to go for it, he really took off."

Said Anderson of his experience this past season as a Millrat: "Manchester has been great - Ian and (Millrats majority owner) Jason are great people who would do anything for you. Everything about the team...its great - I love it up there."

His meteoric rise from playground legend to ABA MVP earned him an NBA workout with Indiana Pacers in June. He's now got his sights set on becoming one of the top point guards in Europe, and then who knows? Perhaps the NBA will come calling. One thing is certain: Anthony Anderson is proof that with talent and hard work, great things can happen!
