Quote:
CONCORD, N.H. -- Student dances are in jeopardy in one New Hampshire school because of a dancing style that administrators say mimics a sexual act.

Principal Gene Connolly said Concord High School has canceled all school dances and postponed homecoming after students failed to dance according to school policy at the first dance of the year, which was last weekend.

Students said the adults are just making a big fuss and that they just want to have fun, but administrators said it's serious business and the children need to comply with school rules.

"I think we should be able to dance how we want. We're in high school now -- not like we're going to do anything bad," freshman Jack Parlier said.

Saturday night, about 350 students attended the year's first school dance. The music had barely begun before the chaperones asked about a dozen students to leave for dancing inappropriately. About 150 of the 350 students at the dance left with them.

At issue is a style of dancing known as "grinding" where there is one person in the front, usually a girl, and one person in the back, usually a boy. They gyrate against one another. Students said it's just how they dance these days, but administrators said that it is too overtly sexual for a school function.

But some students and parents say the grinding is a sign of the times, like the jitterbug and disco once were.

The Concord High School dance policy states, "Acceptable behavior must be demonstrated by all students in attendance. All dance styles must comply with standards of modesty and safety. Dance partners must face each other."

Dr. Christine Rath, the Concord School Superintendent, said that a big piece of the district's education is learning to respect community boundaries.

"I don't think it's a big deal, no harm," senior student Cassie Thomas said. "(We're) not going any further than just dancing."

Principal Connolly told parents this week that they would be offended if they saw the dancing.

The school met with students and parents Tuesday to try to come up with a compromise, which hasn't yet happened.

Connolly said if they reach a compromise, the school would reschedule homecoming.[/b]
Aren't you glad this is in New Hampshire?

Any girl here who needs a prom or homecoming date?

I'm not really suprised that this school doesn't like this type of dancing. Hey, some schools have a problem with it some don't.

That's bullshit. I've never been to a school dance, however.

ok.....I'm really going to show my age now, right?

I have to agree with this article and what they did. Dancing that I see now is nowhere NEAR what it was when I went to dances. Yes...times change and everything is a little more loose nowadays, but if I saw my girls dancing like that at a SCHOOL dance(or any dance, I guess), I'd be furious, embarassed, jealous(?). Joking........
Just because the music's changed and all that, doesn't mean kids should be allowed to "grind" against each other. There's enough of that in back seats of cars, in my opinion. Or maybe I'm against it more because I have two daughters. Or maybe I AM old.

I remember when I would dance with a girl, teachers would go around and tell me and whoever else to cut it out some..it was kinda ridicilous. It's a school Dance..what we suppose to do? I stopped going eventually. I get the reasoning of it of course..and it does seem inappropriate to have 15 year olds grindin each other...in school...but come on, do I have to turn Dirty Dancing on for these peeps and remind us all how far we've come?

dam this happend in my school and some more but here its perreo its like grinding but wit reggaeton and sometimes it gets realllll hot but that sometimes is reallll good :P but every1 else thinks that perreo is just a type of dance. and i was talkin to a friend of mine and she said she didnt like to dance perreo cuse then she felt wierd when her partner gets exited she feels the wood and she grosses out. dam that was my only chance to dance wit her cuse she is hotttt and now i cant:( anwyay there are a lot of other girls who do dance it this is the deffinition of wikipedia of how to dance perreo:P, maybe its like grinding:

The partners face the same direction so that one partner's (typically the girl's) buttocks are rubbing the other partner's (the boy's) groin. This is the most common technique in the reggaeton scene, otherwise known as perreo. In some parts of the Northeastern United States it is commonly called culiando, which basically translates to grinding. A variation of this technique has the girl supporting her weight with one or two hands on the floor (buttocks in the air) while the boy, holding her by the waist, grinds to the rhythm on the buttocks in a manner that simulates the doggy style sexual position.
