Default Child Arrested After Opening Holiday Gift Early

Child Arrested After Opening Holiday Gift Early - Holidays - ClickOnDetroit.com | WDIV

I applaud the woman for doing this. That kid needs a lot of disciplining. That's a growing criminal right there.

wow.......and people that I was bad.....just kidding.

I agree with you, Yugi. At first I thought it was a little extreme, but after reading the whole thing it might be justifiable, if it'll save this kid at all.

Spare the rod, spoil the child.

I agree...kids these days are more violent than usual. I blame things like the violent movies, and games. Of course, some people brush it off, while some kids adapt to it, and act it out...in bad consequences. So arresting him would probably be a good thing.

oh, i forgot to add, its pretty stupid to arrest your child over opening a present. police are meant to arrest over criminal charges, not freaking family issues...
and its disgraceful how the mother called the police AFTER the child gave it back.
still, he deserved it

Yeah I was thinking the same thing... That it was a little extreme for opening a present then I got to the end. They were discussing this on the radio earlier and everyone was saying how rediculous it was, but no one ever mentioned him being on the verge of expulsion etc. etc.

This "monster" of a child didn't create himself. I always blame the parent first.

At least his moms recognizes that she's overwhelmed now and needs some intervention. I hope she looked long and hard in the mirror over how she raised him up to this point.

But what if she's done everything right for him and he still acts this way? I agree with you that it's mostly the parent's fault with crap like this....but sometimes a kid knows what buttons to push and how to get in trouble anyways, regardless of parenting skills.

You're not born bad.

And even if it ain't the parents' fault, it's the parents' responsibility. That kid didn't have himself. Everything that he's been exposed to or done in his life, is because the parent allowed it. How old is this chick anyway, if his great-grandmother is 63?

I just see so many young men that get really spoiled at a young age to make up for no man being around. And they grow up to be ain't shit men too. It ain't the kids fought that his moms don't know what the hell she doing.

The mother is 27. She was a child herself, when she had him.

I'm not saying the boy was born bad and I don't believe any kid is either. But some kids got a wicked way about them, that's all.
Is it ultimately the parent's fault? Yes. But as that kid gets older, he needs to take responsibility for his own actions.
If my girls go out, get drunk, drive home and kill someone on the way...is it my fault they did that because I have a beer once in awhile at home? I guess my point is is that you need to take responsibility for your own actions after awhile. Not at his young age, but sooner or later......

I just always thought that one key task of parenting is to map your child's weaknesses early and address it. Too often, parents bask in their childrens cuteness and create monsters.

I don't think, Petite, you addressed RAISING the kid and how effective a parent can be in nipping problems in the bud.

ok....I see where you're coming from. You're right....a lot of people say, "oh isn't it cute when he/she throws a fit and gets their way??" or something similar and it only escalades from there. Little problems only get bigger as they do...

I agree, the parent is to blame, and it is her fault she neglected him. and yes, It is best to discipline your child young, otherwise they would be uncontrollable later in life.
