Quote:
Larry Brown has been relieved of his responsibilities as head coach of the New York Knicks it was announced today. Isiah Thomas, who serves as the team's president and general manager, will also assume the role of head coach, effective immediately.

"Larry has had a long and storied career. We hired him last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time. Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't. After careful consideration, despite the best intentions from everyone involved, this current structure did not work for us last season and I did not think it was going to improve next season," MSG Chairman James L. Dolan said. "I have great personal admiration for Larry, but have concluded that it is best for our franchise if we make this change. We understand that fans were not happy with the performance of the team last season and neither were we. We are committed to making major improvements next season towards our goal of producing a winning basketball team."

"No one in our organization is happy with last season and we all accept responsibility for our performance," Thomas said. "This has been a difficult time for the entire organization and our fans. Today begins the 2006-07 season for the Knicks, and I strongly believe we are on the right track to take major steps in our rebuilding process to achieve our goal of being one of the premier teams in the NBA. Larry Brown is a great coach, but for various reasons, bringing him to the Knicks did not turn out the way we had hoped and we wish him the best in the future."

Thomas, who joined the Knicks as president and general manager on Dec. 22, 2003, previously served as a head coach with the Indiana Pacers for three seasons from 2000-01 through 2002-03. Coaching a youthful Pacers team, he compiled a record of 131-115 record, making the playoffs in each of his three seasons.[/b]

He should comeback to Detroit and coach the Shock. The job might be availible if Bill Laimbeer dont get it together. Or the New York Liberty may be looking for a new coach aswell, atleast he'll still be in New York. I kind of feel bad for the man.

Holy Crap...So crazy.

Larry Brown is gonna be a rich rich man and won't have to lift a finger to do so. Lucky him.

He should definately takes this year off to think about some things. I think it was to early to have jumped back into it last season.

Now that I think of it, this man is getting paid millions to sit at home and do nothing. I sit at home all the time doing nothing, it would be great if I could be getting paid while doing so.

I don't believe Isiah can do better coaching job than LB, there. Isiah is great guy, player but not a great coach.

Furthermore, I think Knicks is somehow cursed, nobody can help them.

I was hoping they could've gave LB 1 more year. With all the money Dolan throws around you would think he could just buy out all his players except for the young ones. They can't win with what they got so you would hope they would do what's right.

I don't see Isiah doing better than LB, he's screwed up the Knicks. I really wanna see him fired all ready

I think it was too early to fire him. It's not like they had a good team or anything. Just a bunch of over paid, mediocore individuals, put together and LB, didn't do a good job by any means, but it's just as much the front office's fault, player's fault as it is LB's. They should've made player moves before they fired the coach. That's just my opinion.

Maybe Isiah could pull a Pat Riley and take his team to the next level, this case maybe we're talking playoffs?

The game is evolving and Larry Brown's strategy as a coach isn't evolving with it. Larry Brown could still be a successful coach in the league, but not with a young undefined team that is looking for their identity. Unless Larry gets more open minded, there's only a handful of teams in the league that he can be successful coaching.
