I would never encourage the idea of paying student atheletes. But one interesting loophole through it is if all players on the team had a free ride through college. Its almost as good as money and your almost ensured of an education. Thoughts?

The way I see it...they are on their way to making millions if they prove it now in the college teams.... so no...for now..let them show off their skills and get drafted if they really deserve it....but what I really wanna get now are tickets to the NCAA finalssss!!

Paid as in a "salary" - no. But they should have enough in their scholarship package to help them pay for the basic living expenses.

i dont think students should get paid for playing in their respective colleges...
what they could get the most is maybe some privileges at school, but definitely no cash involved, besides they are still studying and not working.

No i dont think so because for the really serious players, the NCAA is just a training for the NBA and now it is also a mandatory thing. I also think that because their students their primary goal should be to learn. Lastly, if u pay the good players u have to play the not so good ones as well. I dunno but i just think it would cost too much money to pay them. Playing college basketball is a privlage, and paying the kids would subtract a lot of money from other academic programs which though, benfitting the college students playing basketball it would take away from all of the other kids at the college.

They should not get paid. The primary purpose of a college/university is to educate. That ideal should be first and foremost in everyone's mind and should not be perverted by the quest for athletic glory.
Paying college athletes would turn colleges and universities into nothing more than businesses. That is the worst possible thing that could happen to institutions of higher learning. |

Everyone seems to agree. they should NOT get paid- this would create a lot of perversion in the system - I don't mean sexual perversion LOL- and after all universities are supposed to be about learning. Scholarships should be enough to satisfy them, after all they're supposed to be proving themselves.

I believe they sould get paid. These colleges are not non-profit organizations they are able to market using the players names and images and if you go to a game they have a real feel of a professional franchise. Also. when you go to a game look around and see how many people are making money off that game or sport and ralize just about the only ones not getting paid are the players. For as bad as the fight for players would be if yo would pay them, I think it is already pretty fierce. I always feel for the players when they are being interviewed by reporters who are all geting paid pretty well and if they refused they would probably get suspended. The problem with paying them is that not all schools make money on these sports and the lower profile sports lose money and thanks to Title 9 you would have to pay women athletes

Aside from the fact that they are students, paying college athletes would ruin the spirit and purity of college basketball. Most people watch college basketball as a nice alternative to the money hungry and overpaid stars in the NBA. College basketball brings the game back to its fundamentals and bringing money in to the equation would rip out the soul of the sport.
