Weather was severe enough in the area at the time of the accident that Department of Transportation workers had to use heavy equipment to remove uprooted trees, but it is unclear whether the storm was a factor in the accident, Greene County Sheriff Chris Houston said.

Brophy, a 6-foot-1, 191-pound junior from Melbourne, Australia, was a walk-on as a freshman and also played for the Australian national team in the 2005 World University Games in Turkey, according to the university's sports information department.

Brophy had worked at a free basketball camp Thursday for the Athens Boys and Girls Club, according to men's basketball spokesman Tim Hix. He likely was returning to Savannah, where he attended high school, Hix said.[/b]

It's really sad. I think this same school also lost a football player last week in a motorcycle crash.
