A lot of trade rumors have been swirling around San Antonio the last few days but nothing major just acquired Guard Kevin Martin from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Luke Jackson and a 2010 1st round draft pick. Kevin Martin averaged a total of 7ppg, 3.5rpg in his two year career in Sacramento.



Martin spoke to the media Sunday mourning while arriving at the Spurs practice facility for his physical and he said this “I’m happy to be here with a new fresh start. I loved it there in Sacramento but I know this is a business and I have no hard feelings on the organization or Money Mike. I get a chance to play with some of the best in the game in Tony Parker, Ron Artest, Tim Duncan, and Shaquille O’neal and hopefully I can just come here and fit in. When asked if he was relieved now that he has some of the pressure off to be the go to guy he said this “Yeah, a little bit. Whenever you ask a young guy to have such a big role in the offense there’s a lot of pressure on you but I’m a professional and that’s what we get paid for. Coming here I’ll be able to be the forgotten guy instead of the go to guy which is probably best for me at the time in my career, hopefully I can develop here and when it’s my time become that go to guy.”

Martin expected to start over rookie guard Pete Charles and veteran guard Flip Murray and hopefully will help put more points on the board for the Spurs. The knock on Martin in Sacramento was that Martin was too inconsistent and was outplayed by backup Quincy Douby on most nights but here in Sacramento his role will be much less, he’ll just need to play defense and hit open shots, 10 or 11 points per game will be just about all the Spurs will need from him. With the extended minutes he will be getting that should be no problem. Spurs also acquired guard/forward Dijon Thompson. Thompson was apart of the Phoenix Suns championship team last season and averaged 5.5ppg off the Suns bench and this season 4.9ppg for the Kings. He’s expected to be placed on IR next sim with a sprained knee suffered against the Golden State Warriors on day 38.

Trade Rumors
A new rumor is in town and it involved Ron Artest, Flip Murray, and possibly Viktor Khryapa to Minnesota for Peja Stojakovic. A lot of teams have expressed interest in Artest over the weekend but the deal for Stojakovic is probably the front runner. The Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers have also showed interest in Shaquille O’neal. O’neal was not available to meet with the media due to time off for severe migraines but Artest did speak out. “Your name is always going to be in trade rumors and you just have to ignore them and come to play every night. I love it here and want to be here but I know DTP has to do what’s best for this franchise just like this off season I’ll have to do what’s best for my family.” When asked if he thought he would be moved before the deadline he said no. DTP declined comments when asked about potential trades involving Artest and O’neal this afternoon.
