If you're an established member and have time, it would be greatly appreciated if you could assist in making our new members feel welcome.

Many boards have introduction forums... However, they often end up being an introductory post followed by 50 or so people saying "Welcome", "Welcome to Hoops Talk" and nothing else. It becomes redundant and doesn't really make the person feel welcome.

I think it would be better, if we can say a little more than just a simple "welcome". Asking the new member a question, or picking up on something the poster has said in his/her introduction, is more likely to result in a more meaningful interaction, and probably more likely to make the new member feel truly welcome.

This is not a rule or something you have to do when a new member introcuces themself, just something to keep in mind... The most important thing is that new members see this as a friendly community and one that they want to be part of, rather than one where they feel excluded because they're new. I'm sure most of you know what this feels like.
