Washington Post - Regular season NBA games could take place in China as early as next year, league commissioner David Stern said on Sunday.

The last time the NBA came to China was in October 2004 when the Houston Rockets , led by local hero Yao Ming, played pre-season games against the Sacramento Kings in Shanghai and Beijing.

"We didn't have the China game in the following year in 2005 because we were having a collective bargain then," Stern told state news agency Xinhua in Guangzhou.

"We don't have it this year because of the preparation of the world championship.

"But we are planning to play some games next year here. It could be pre-season, or even regular season."

They played an exhibition game there in 2004 I think. I was watching a documentary on Yao's first season in America, and it mentioned an exhibition game in China b/t the Rockets and Kings

I'm ok with Preseason games being played overseas but regular season games no. First it takes away from the fans here in the States and second with the big schedule the NBA has thats just way too much. You dont see China leagues or w/e having regular season games over here I just think its a bad idea.

Maybe they could do what baseball does when they play games in Japan, which is they have the 2 teams play a week before the rest of the teams open, and when they come back, they get a week to rest and recover.

How would it throw things off?? MLB does it and doesn't mess anything up. They play two games in Asia a week before the season starts, they come home and then they get a week to recover

I don't know why he would want to do something like that because it would just take away from all the money that is made at the home games. Letting China host regular season games in 2007 is not the best idea. He needs to just stick to having some pre season games in China but not go as far as regular season. The next thing you know the playoffs will be in China and then the finals.

Thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. 1st of all that would take the money away from all the nba teams there would be no way to make money. Second of all if they do the regular season games there then eventually the all-star game will be there then the playoffs and finally the finals.

How is it taking money away?? There's TV revenues, and I'm sure certian amounts of ticket sales go to each team. This idea that this will lead to the ASG and playoffs is absurd and I don't see the basis for that arguement. I think that is just some random idea out of nowhere
