Default PlayBooks

First I am a parent with a question. My son plays high school basketball. He is having a hard time getting some of the plays the coach is working on in practice. Myself I never played basketball just football and we always had playbooks to study. Do basketball coaches normally hand out playbooks in basketball for the players to study.
Thanks
