Default is the nba still rigged??

i put in a lot of time explaining why i think the nba is rigged after the mavs and the pistons caved to the heat without seeming to care. it is not so much the refs as the teams and coaches who appeared to have simply surrendered to the designated winner last june.

the other new phenomenon appears to be extending series to as many games as possible so as to maximize ad revenues.

do players/coaches care if they win or do they just need to be paid.

after all it is pro ball...

Of course it's rigged, but the question is do the owners have a problem with this? IMO they're the ones who can get Stern out of office. I think all the players are fed up and most of the coaches, but there isn't really that much they can do. I mean yea the players can go on strike or something, but not all of them. Yea, of course guys like Shaq, Kobe, Artest can go on strike but what about the guys who were free agents and were just signed to fill up the roster. Guys that are gettin paid maybe 250,000 a yr can't afford to not work. Espically when they already have to do things like DRESS A CERTAIN WAY. So in order for this league to return back to being honest I think we are going to need some younger owners, and as we can see the league is starting to get that. Cuban, Jay-Z, the Maloof brothers, Usher. IMO the younger guys will speak out more but guys like Bill Davidson probably say w/e I'm getting more money. So I think with younger owners the league will continue to get better.

Yes, part owner of the Cavs. You don't remember him cheering EXTRA hard against the pistons last year in the playoffs?

I'm enough of a conspiracy buff to believe that, Yeah, of course it's rigged!! In fact, I think ALL professional sports is rigged. Because it's ENTERTAINMENT!!!

They pay these guys millions of dollars to play games which, as youngsters, we played for the fun of it. The only other people who get paid obscenely high salaries to do what they do are...actors/actresses (i.e. entertainers). That's what professional sports is these days...a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry.

My question would be WHY? Because the masses must be ENTERTAINED!! Pacified and kept asleep! Think about it!
My kids teacher and pediatrician don't get paid nearly as much. And yet they're much more important to me than any of these overgrown babies who, in one game, even if they're sitting on the bench because they have turf toe or whatever, are getting more than what you and I would make on a yearly salary in 5 years!!

Why haven't any players blown the whistle on this? WHY? A majority of the players these days are from very poor backgrounds. Would you blow the whistle on an industry that paid you say...$50 milliion over 4 years to play basketball? A-Rod used to get $250 million over x years, didn't he? And now, Soriano will be paid $136 million over 8 years by the Cubs. Not to mention the product endorsements these players make!!!

Okay, done ranting!

I disagree with saying all sports are rigged, I mean some sports you just can't cheat in. For example, how is an umpire going to cheat. He can't stop you from hitting the ball or pitching it. Or football, on the reciever can run the routes. We all know of course wrestling is fake, and the nba is rigged. But I just have to disagree with all sports are rigged.

True, but strike zones, eventhough they're supposed to be between the knees and letters of the batter and the width of the plate, are somewhat subjective with each umpire. And although I know that 99% of the time they seem to get the call on the bases correct, I think there are an increasing number of calls that are wrong. And all you need are a couple calls to go the "right way" in order to change the outcome of a game.

Last years' World Series was weird I thought. There were a couple of times when I thought the White Sox should have been eliminated. Perhaps the PTB (powers that be) felt it would be good to finally let the Chicago WS have a baseball championship after what, 100 years?

In the ALCS against Anaheim i believe, that play where Pierzynski (correct me if I'm wrong) should have been called out on a 3rd strike, but thought the catcher dropped the ball or something and ran to first base and was ruled safe. None of the umpires made any kinda call until the manager came out and argue about it. Some sort of call should have been made immediately, but wasn't. An important game and a important moment and all the umpires do is stand there!!

And what about this year? Detroit winning the AL penant?? What's that all about? This is a team that lost well over 100 games a couple years back, and hadn't been able to put together a winning season for nearly 10 years. The previous year they finish 20 games BELOW .500, and then with just the addition of a few key players they finish 19 games above .500, almost run away with the central division by the all-star break, only to lose it on the last day of the regular season. They seem to revert to their old ways during the second half of the season, then uncharacteristically blow away both the NY Yankees and the Oakland A's!!!!! Never mind the A's, weren't the Yankees supposed to be the Golden Boys of the AL?

And in the World Series, when FOX-TV was bringing to light the fact that Kenny Rogers had some unidentified substance on his hand the umpires didn't bother to look closer at the so called "mud", all because Tony Larussa says it's no big deal? Since when do the umpires take their cues from the opposing team's manager??? No to mention the fact that while Larussa is conferring with the umpires about the whole matter, Rogers discreetly ducks into the clubhouse and washes his hands!! Don't get me wrong, I'm a Tiger fan, but I still had to laugh at it all. True, by the way Rogers pitched (?) it didn't seem to matter. But what if Rogers had been disqualified?

And I even thought it was a little odd that a team that could practically do no wrong against NY and Oakland suddenly can't seem to throw a ball straight to either first or third base, or hit the ball!

Well, like I said, I think it's all entertainmet for the masses. 2 blue-collar cities meet in the WS. I thought by the way they took care of business it should have been a subway series between the Yankees and Mets. But then, I don't live and work in Hollyweird!

The umpires didn't go out and "undress" Rogers because they can't unless the opposing manager wants them to or they feel that the player is cheating. They didn't think that Rogers was cheating and so he wasn't ejected. As for washing his hands; the home plate umpire asked him to do it.

You dont think it would be leaked out somewhere? You guys are saying that all the bulls championships are BS and all the trades that have ever gone down are just nonsense to generate discussion? I don't know about being rigged, but I'm sure there are behind the scenes deals going on between the owners. It really sucks, but when money is involved, you never know.

Of course it's rigged! Even on Sony PSP NBA's rigged. There's millions of dollars to be made so why not make it for yourself? Money is the best motivator.
