Houston Chronicle - Rockets center Yao Ming said he was not worried about returning next week from the bruised big toe that kept him from practice the past two days.
"I never feel bad here about my toes, never feel hurt, never feel pains," Yao said. "There's just bleeding from the stress last year. I'm going to try to be very careful. They tell me to stop, take care of it and don't get it infected. But I never felt pain on the court. My last two (practices) on the court, I felt good with the toes."
Though Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said he was concerned that Yao's shoes caused or at least failed to prevent the bruising that developed Wednesday, Yao said he did not believe his shoes caused the problems. He did say that shoes that fit might prevent issues.
"I think the shoe's always very important," Yao said. "I use the same kind of shoes. It never brings me any problems.
"I tried (a new) one already. Part of my shoe needed adjustment, but not on the toe box. I think the shoes are on the way."
